Saints could be staying at Love Street for a little longer after it was revealed talks to sell the ground are not progressing as quickly as was hoped. Saints are hoping to sell Love Street to a supermarket chain and build a new stadium on Greenhill Road in order to clear the club's debt.

It's now nearly a year since that day in May when the council gave planning permission for both sites, and from the point of view of your average fan things are no further forward. We've got at least another year to go at the current ground, we haven't sold Love Street and work hasn't begun on the new site.

The planning permission lasts for about five years, and the banks are not pressuring us. This is just as well, as one Love Street insider said: "Talks are taking a bit longer than planned and we could be staying where we are for a second season."

This would maybe help to explain why the club suddenly decided to withdraw their request to get away without installing undersoil heating, and are also upgrading the pitch to meet UEFA criteria!
