Flannery Love Street Bound?

By Stuart Gillespie
Friday, 28th November 2003
Paddy Flannery quit second division Dumbarton last night, and could be on his way to Love Street. The striker, who has also played for Morton, is a Saints fan and with Saints desperately in need of a fit striker they may sign him up on a short term contract.
Despite having a decent start to the season, Flannery has been dropped from Dumbarton's first team recently and so has quit the club. According to one paper this morning, Flannery has managed roughly a goal every other game in his Dumbarton career. Whilst this has been played in the third and second divisions, it should be noted that Mark Yardley was at third division Cowdenbeath before we signed him, whilst Mark Crilly, Allan Russell, Robert Dunn and Laurie Ellis were all playing at lower league level last season and haven't done too badly for Saints this year.

Flannery is a Saints fan and was even on trial at Love Street in March 2000, however the club decided not to sign him. There was also interest in him a few years ago but nothing came of it. Now that Flannery is a free agent, it is possible that the club could move to sign him, especially as the current strikers at Love Street are either injured or out of form. Despite what the club say, there is surely some cash around considering the club tried to sign Scott Walker a few months ago.

Please note that I have absolutely no sources for this story. I saw in The Scottish Sun this morning that Flannery had left Dumbarton, and thought there was a chance we could either offer him a trial or sign him until January. It could also be total bollocks :-)
